EMBER GUARD / SUPPLEMENTAL EXTERIOR SYSTEMS

Evaluate the whole system before selecting the hardware.

Ember Guard’s rooftop sprinkler category explores supplemental exterior systems for wetting selected building surfaces. This is a separate application from indoor residential fire sprinklers and requires a property-specific review.

Understand the evidence and limitations

IBHS reports limited methodical research on real-world wildfire effectiveness for external sprinkler systems. Wind can change where water reaches, while water and electrical supplies may be unavailable when the system is needed.

A supplemental sprinkler system does not replace home hardening, defensible space or evacuation. Never delay evacuation to activate or maintain a system.

Define the design questions

Product selection should follow a review with qualified professionals. The discussion needs to cover the intended wetting area and the conditions the system depends on.

  • Water source, available flow and pressure, and operating duration.
  • Wind exposure, coverage assumptions and areas the system may not reach.
  • Controls, activation, power dependencies and loss-of-service scenarios.
  • Roof attachments, piping routes and compatibility with the building.

Plan operation and maintenance

Before selecting components, ask who will document the design, complete the installation and explain operating procedures. Establish what needs inspection, how issues will be addressed and who is responsible for ongoing upkeep.

Claims about coverage or performance should relate to the specific proposed system and its supporting evidence. A sample illustration or demonstration is not proof that a home will be protected in a wildfire.

Current product stage

Ember Guard is developing this category. Specific systems, models, suppliers, availability and support terms must be confirmed during planning. Call (347) 987-9521 to discuss the information needed for a product inquiry.
