Start where the fence meets the home
Document the proposed fence line, building connection, gate opening and transitions to other materials. Include nearby vegetation or stored items in the site review.
CAL FIRE’s defensible-space guidance recommends replacing combustible fencing and gates attached to the home with noncombustible alternatives. The appropriate extent and installation details need to be assessed for the property.
Specify more than the panels
A useful product comparison covers the parts that make the fence and gate work as an assembly.
- Panel material, dimensions and the intended installation setting.
- Posts, supports, attachment details and transitions at the building.
- Gate size, hinges, latches and required access.
- Finishes, exposed hardware and manufacturer maintenance instructions.
Keep the limits clear
A steel fence should not be represented as a fire-rated wall or a barrier against every flame, ember or source of radiant heat. Its place in the plan depends on the assembly, the surroundings and the building connections.
Confirm local requirements, property boundaries and installation responsibilities before work begins. A maintenance plan should include vegetation and accumulated debris along the fence and around its connection to the home.
Confirm the proposed product
Ember Guard is developing its product range. Models, suppliers, specifications, availability and warranty terms require confirmation. Call (347) 987-9521 to discuss the category and your intended installation.
